Hi,

last time I played prophecy with hcl movie patch and vob files, i experienced crashes of a few vids which belong to cd3. the game did not use the cd vid files, maybe because i played without the cds.

had someone else the same problems, or am I the only one?
 
I remember getting some CD-Videos on CD3, IIRC. I do believe, that there are some minor Videos missing, so WCP tries to find them on the CD. Perhaps that is the reason why your WCP crashes.
 
so wcp access its vids from the cd, not from the hdd, even if you chose full installation?

I wonder why wcp did not load the cd vids automatically..

I guess a good rule of thumb, would be to leave the cd3 inside during playing?

Yes, because Prophecy came out in 1997 when typical hard drives were only a gigabyte or two and copying entire multiple CD games to a hard drive was unfeasible. Even the massive 500 meg full install was pretty forward thinking and future proof. WC3's full install of the four-CD game was just 40 megs.
 
1997? Really? WCP was THAT long ago? Gosh...

I think, WCP only copies the most-used data like the InFlight-Speech and so on, so that the CD-loading is just limited to the movies.
 
As far as I know, you need to swap the CDs and you cannot make a CD-less install just by copying the files to the hard drive. The differences between the CDs are not limited to the movies, the missions and series files are different from one CD and the other, too.
