If I start the game right after I boot the computer the intro plays fine but skips the scene of Tolwyns door and the space station, the Terran one. I see the pictures for a split second- but no text. If skip the cutscenes up until those by hitting Esc they play normally- but I obviously miss the ones up until there.

If I try to start the game after that it skips even more of the cutscenes. I have tried it on two different computers, new and old, with the same results. One with XP and the other Windows 98SE. Could this be an issue where it just won't work on anything other then 95? I know it should work in 98 but it doesn't.

Any help on this issue would really make my day. Thanks.

Could you kindly tell us what version of WC2 are you trying to play?

Is it the Kilrathi Saga version?

Or are you trying to play the original DOS game?

If you're playing the DOS game, are you using a DOS emulator such as DOSBox?

Also, you might want to try looking through here first.

I'm terribly sorry, I thought I mentioned that it was The Kilrathi Saga version. I did look through the forum and found a few others with this same problem but no one seems to have come up with a solution.

is your win98SE pc too fast?

I played my WC2KS on a 800 mgz pentium 3.

Sometimes, some scenes are slightly accelerated.

Try using a slow down util like mo'slo or CPU killer. Might help things.

MOSLO only works for DOS games.
Try TURBO instead for Windows. But I'd try fo lower the sound acceleration of your soundcard first.

But I fear it won't help with the original problem. It most likely is any version of DirectX bigger then 2 that causes the problems (DirectX3 and above is NOT 100% downward compatible to 2), not the OS itself.

Using Turbo most of the opening cut scene played fine except one line of the second two Kilrathi talking was cut off. Any ideas?

In addition to sound hardware acceleration, try turning off directdraw or any other video acceleration in dxdiag or your control panel.
