Hey guys,

I've been trying to get WC3 and WC4 to run on my computer. I have Windows XP, 512 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600. So I installed DosBox 0.62. I mounted my CD-ROM drive, but when I try and install either of the games, I get the same error: 'EMS driver is not VCPI compliant.' Anybody know how to solve this problem? Thanks guys!

Have you tried just playing them from Windows XP? If you can get them installed, running through compatibility mode might do the trick. This update has a patch for getting the WC4 installer working under XP.

Ok, wc4 is up and running fine with the win 95 patch. Its just WC3 I'm having problems with. The sound is all glitchy. What compatibility mode should I run WC3 under. Also, when I install wc3, it doesn't copy all the files from the CD to my computer. It just has some 'Saved Setting' files. Should I set the compatiblity mode different for the CD? Or what should I do? Sorry, I'm not that good with computer, (but I love Wing Commander!)
Thanks guys,

It doesn't sound like anything is wrong with the WC3 installer. I think the game will copy any additional files that it needs (music, gameflow) to hard disk when they're needed. I'd try running in Windows 95 compatibility mode.

There is an alternative to DosBox called Abandonloader that you can try. We reported on that here. Maybe someone else can help you getting WC3 to run on Dosbox or Abandonloader. I've never used either one. I do believe that emulators slow the computer down a lot, so getting WC3 to run on its own would certainly be preferable.

Hey guys,

Maybe I should just register with the forums. I mean, I'm asking a ton of questions so I might as well. Anyway, so I got WC3 installed. The only problem I'm experiencing now is the sound effects. The music is fine. Its just he sound effects i'm having problems with. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
