I've posted this problem before on the forums but no one got back to me but I'm tryin again anyway:) You guys are my only hope. EA is about as helpful as a bucket of sh!t.
Anyway, the problem is when I'm flyin around in space adter about 15 minutes or so doing a mission or something and the game just freezes or crashes to the desktop with the following error:
Application Error C:\Dark\dark.exe

The instruction at 00475534 referenced memory at ffffffff

Or the game just freezes/hangs or quits the desktop with a blue screen error when you try to do anything else on the computer

--------------------

I have tried ABSOLUTLEY everything (well unless I'm missing something very fundamental ) to fix this problem but to no avail.
I have pretty much disabled my entire computer, harware acceleration, System.ini and Win.ini, closed down background tasks, 256 colour at 640*480 to the extent that nothing else runs on my computer except Privateer 2 (just!!!).
In the game I have disabled all video & animated transsitions as well as all sounds except obviously in movies.

Maybe it's directx right?...I have tried the game on 5 other computers with directx certified drivers and the same problem persists. The only directx issue I can think of is my 39MB page file which might be limiting the virtual memory (or whatever!!!) for the game. If this is the case then how do I change this page file size to something larger.

The only other thing I can think of is in the game itself but since there is no more origin or anyone who can release a patch for this what the heck can one do?

PLEEZ can someone help. I have been trying to play this game for 5 years and I still havent finished it!!!

Have you considered that your copy of the game might be bad? I can run priv 2 in 98se with little problems...I did have to download a cpu killer program so I could run it at a decent speed. From time to time during a movie the program would lock up...but you shouldn't have to do anything super special to your pc to run the game. Just create an MS-DOS shortcut that forces the program to run under windows...that should be enough.

Bad! U can say that again...evil more like it ;)
The version that I'm running is the delux edition Windows version that has been patched by the original DOS patch and then converted to be able to run in Windows. I have no problems in movies or when I'm on a planet - it's only in space flight.

Invalid page fault errors are hard to find. It can be something not loaded properly, a bad/invalid pointer in memory, bad hardware, bad drivers...
In your case, the fffffff probably means a invalid pointer. (Like bad programming or bad loading)

Does this always happen or did it only start midgame. P2 is known for being rather unstable. Especially when being in Disk2. I usually had crashes about once every 2 hours.

It happens on all 3 CDs.
With regards to the invalid pointer at ffffffff, it does sound like quite a strange memory reference which is probably due to bad programming. In that case, who would I contact (EA/Origin past staff) in order to get a patch or some kind of solution?

You can get the full staff here , but it will be hard to find someone to fix it, since EA didn't reach their financial predictions for the last quarter. They *only* had net revenues of $716 million. :p
I think the windows version was in 16bits (Windows 3.1) instead of 32bits (Win95). It could be a function not fully supported by Windows. Also, I had a few problems once with a Dos game by having too much memory. So I had to drop from 64mb to 32mb or 16mb the XMS memory.
I found something about booting in Dos using a USB thumb drive. Maybe that could help. http://www.weethet.nl/english/hardware_bootfromusbstick.php

Had the same problem 5 month ago.

I made a few decisions on aplanet, saved and then every 10-15 minutes the game crashed with this error.

I loaded an older savegame (I always have several savegames just to be sure) and everything worked fine...
