Privateer2 - The darkening

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this forum, hoping we all have the same good mutual understanding as the members of electro-tech-online (an electronic forum). If anyone has an electronic problem this is the right place to find a solution. You can find me in the forum having the user name "Boncuk".

Now here is my software problem:

I downloaded privateer2 - the darkening from the internet. There is no install-CD involved, just a zipped file of 12,159KB size.

After unzipping and installation I installed the DOSBOX and mounted a drive as prescribed.

The program starts with an error message, mainly saying "missing or invalid 386FX driver"

There are no .tle files contained in the directory.

Which further steps are necessary for a successful installation?

Regards

Hans

It's pretty hard to diagnose what could possibly be wrong with pirated copies of the games when there's enough issues with getting the regular game working as is. Often the "download" version have actually introduced problems that weren't there to start with.

Recomendation: Find a cheap copy on ebay and then we'll know for sure if something was missing or broken in your download, and then we can work on any remaining issues.

Privateer2

I didn't count on downloading a pirated copy of the game having paid for it.

Anyway, I downloaded the recommended demo version for the time being. I'm living in Thailand and it's not easy to get what you want.

I also downloaded the windows installer. Very much to my surprise it doesn't seem to calculate free disk space properly.

The demo version requires ~1.4GB of free disk space.

Here are the values of free disk spaces of the drives I wanted to use:

drive C: 29.3GB,
drive D: reserved,
drive E: 60.5GB,
drive F: 98.2GB,
drive G: 72.7GB and
drive H: 123GB

The installer isn't satisfied with either drive.

What's the problem with that?

Kind regards to all

If you create the c:\dark directory before running the install (or wherever else you want to install to) you shouldn't get the disks space error.
