It has been a long time since I played this game. I received a older computer and wanted to install privateer. So I installed dos 6.22 on it I can't seem to get it up and running? here is my sys specs. pentium 2 with 333mhz soundblaster card 52 cdrom 2 gig harddrive not sure on memory can't remember how to look @ it in dos?
Auto exec.bat.
prompt $p$g
path=c:\dos
set comspec=c:\dos\command.com
c:
lh c:\mouse\mouse.exe
mscdex/d:mscd001 /v

Config.sys
device=c:\dos\himem.sys
device=c:\dos\emm386.exe 2592 ram
dos=high
files=30
buffers=30
shell=c:\dos\command.com c:\dos /p
devicehigh=c:\cdpro\vide-cdd.sys/d:mscd001

It does not reconize my cdrom So I guess I have enough memory??
What do I do for sound and joystick??
Could someone e-mail me with some help...??

thanks....they need to make a windows version of privateer after all the supporters they have for the game

Well, for starters, you're definitely not specifying enough RAM in your HIMEM line. 2.5 MB of RAM isn't quite enough to be running Privateer. Since you don't say how much you have, I'm not sure of it, but if you have a pentium II you probably have enough to increase that number to 4096, 8192, or even 16384. Going higher than 16MB of RAM isn't recommended, since it doesn't offer any performance advantages and only causes potential problems.

As far as sound goes, tell us the exact type of sound card you have, since that driver needs to be loaded in your configuration files as well. Joystick will come off of the soundcard, ideally.
If you're having trouble with your CDROM drive, you can run Privateer off of your hard drive, like I do. You need to copy the *.tre files off of the CD into your Privateer directory and then change the drive letter in the *.cfg files in your Privateer directory. The .tre files are something like 150 MB, but with a 2 gig hard drive, this shouldn't be a problem for you, right?
And there is sort of a Windows Privateer...
There is a program called MyJemm written by an excellent human being called Ross Ridge that lets you run Privateer fairly stably in 95/98/ME. But, your mileage WILL vary with this program, and the only guarantee is DOS.

type
mem /C >C:\mem.txt
(in DOS with all drivers loaded. DO NOT run it in Windows - the results would be wrong)

Then copy and paste the contents of the file mem.txt here (found in c:\).

Look for the file mem.txt, found in the root directory of c:\ after entering the command.

Well I finally got a chace to work on computer again...It is rying to run.. Now I how problems with my sound ..I looked on the internet in drivers.com and creative site the do not list my sound card. I have a ct4170 I found all kinds of upgrades but not actually drivers. And it is for DOS ONLY..I have no windows installed..I installed one that I thought was a driver. But it had a dll extension. So I figured it was a upgrade..I'll even buy a new one but iI do not know one that works with dos and comes with a dos driver? Any suggestions??....Jeff

I have spent many hours attempting to get privateer to run in standard windows 98. While attempting to run in dos box I get the message:

Missing or invalid 386FX driver

I am so desperate to play this game... can someone lend a hand to this helpless fool?
