Privateer Sound!!

Ok, i got priv working now :) except the sound thing, i get the dreaded d002-FFFFF error which i know means it doesnt like my soundcard

I have an onboard sound with my 1ghz board and whilst i have found out that it is IRQ of 5 i have no idea about setting the other values!!

So in other words, its YEARS since ive had to set a LINE for my soundcard in my autoexec since windows98+ dont need them!

So what i need is for someone to help me find out WHAT values my soundcard should have and how to assign them into the autoexec.bat

Hopefuly once that is done i can hear the sound...... i will play the GAME without sound if necessary but i would love the sound!!

Please reply here or email me at unicorn_uk80@hotmail.com or icq me on 60886272

Any and all help will be appreiated

If you got some dos games hanging arround use their setup programs to find out what you card is set to of hunt for a freeware/ shareware game and see if that will help. Or you could look in control planel and goto system and find you card and find out its setings. It should be under sound, video and game controllers in device manager. Good luck.

All it tells me is the IRQ is 5, the rest i cant make out

grrr this is so frustrating!

If you know of a TITLE for a game i can download that DETECTS such information then please tell me coz im at a loose end here :(

I would but they dont display any information about my soundcard

Ive been running my PC's via 95, 98 and 2000 for the past 5 years, ive even forgotten there WAS an AUTOEXEC.BAT for my computer!!

Boot disk? wots one of those :) :) but i do remember the old days of not even being able to run a crappy space invader game without about 5 memmory managers, etc and the good ol, config.sys and autoexec.bat

so wot am i doing to run priv?

basicaly i found an old w98 boot disk like suggested and ran them

SO, basicaly my auotexec.bat is a simple one but i need to somehow tell it to recognise my soundcard...... unfortunaly i have no idea how to

so if u can help me pls do

Can't help you if you don't even know which sound card you have. The "dosstart.bat" file is in the windows directory. It has a lot of info. You need to provide information. Which OS is your PC? Every sound card has it's own way of handling DOS. I can't help you configure your sound card if I don't know what it is. Info is what we need.

Go to your device manager (right-click My Computer, hit Properties, hit the Devices tab) and look under "Sound, video and game controllers". You should find your card listed there. Double-click it and hit the Resources tab, and post the information from the text box.

Sorry, we can't help you. The Via ac'97 Audio Controller (wdm) is integrated sound chip. I research this about two months ago. It does not play in DOS. These chips only works in windows. You'll need to get a sound card which supports DOS if you want sound for DOS games.

is there ANYWAY to run it in windows?

or perhaps do u have a list of currently MANUFACTURED soundcards that would provide me sound in dos?

Don't get a SBLive card. I currently have it and I really don't think it a great game sound card. Keep coming back here you will get responses on which sound cards to get.

well ill buy a cheap 5£ card if it works, need to know it WOULD work

so if anyone HAS privateer running in dos, WITH sound can u please tell me wot card

i remembver the dinky sound of OXFORD and i luved it but my old priv game didint have the speech pack so i wanna hear it

Doubt it's the sort of stuff you're looking for, but you did ask, so I answered. :)

BTW, are you saying 'wot' on purpose?
