Privateer Runs SLOW!

Well, After giving up on the VMWare, I made a DOS box out of spare parts and a IBM Aptiva I had in my closet. It is a Pentium 83htz processor, with onboard video, and a ASOUND sound card.

Well to keep this short, I got everything installed fine, except my joystick, and decided to try priv. Well it came up, and I got REALLY excited (since I have not seen the game for years).

Here is the problem... The graphics, and everything are extremely clipy. I mean it ran faster on my 386. Is this a video card thing? Bad hard ware? Or does proiv just not like the pentium platform?

thanks guys. If you need any more info to diagnose the prob, please just let me know.

I don't know why it's running slow but, I can tell you that I just finish playing the game on AMD Athlon T-bird 900 mhz machine. It played alright. This is just one of those games that seem to handle will on faster processors. Post your autoexec.bat and config.sys. What version of DOS are you using?

Try it without sound as a test. Most problems are sound related. If that also doesn't solve it I am clueless (at least for the moment)

Sorry I didn't come here earlier; might have helped clear this up before you went to too much trouble.

Privateer runs at about half speed whenever there's no joystick installed. Don't know why, it just does.

Nope, not joking; sorry. You can hear the difference in the music; notice how it seems to speed up any time you go to autopilot. When you have a joystick, it's always going at that speed.

Aw man, after all these years... I thought those music speed changes were how it was supposed to be...
