Hi, I'm having one major issue so far getting the self-installing DOSbox version of WC: Privateer to run on my computer.

I've WinXP home, 256MB RAM.

The issue is that i get no video period. I have sound on both the windowed and fullscreen versions, but just a black screen in the Privateer game.

Here's the config file (I cycled down to 4k so the sound would stop skipping)

[sdl]
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullfixed=false
fullresolution=Default
output=overlay
hwscale=1.00
autolock=false
sensitivity=40

[speaker]

[dos]

[directserial]

If you have the original disk I recommend using that with regular dosbox instead. You can then just follow the CIC's dosbox walkthrough.

Check what options you can choose for output other than overlay and see if they help.

What an old config beast did you dig out there...

Get DOSBox 0.72 and use its default config file, it should be ok for the first experiments.

If it's still black try to change the output= parameter.

Do you mean self-installing DOS version? As AD said, Privateer "Gold Edition" won't work in Windows XP. It was designed to install and then reboot you in Windows 95/98's dos mode, which no longer exists. You can use our CIC tutorial and DOSBox with it however.

IT's either that or he downloaded that version someone compiled that has the full privateer and dosbox packaged in an XP installer.

Note: this constitutes Warez. If someone makes an installer that uses your existing CD that would be fine, but it's probably easier just to download regular dosbox anyway.
