Privateer 2

I just got a copy of privateer 2 as a gift and wondered if it will work on xp or how to make it work on xp
 
Well, there's a DOS and Windows 95 version of P2. That'll determine the level of tweaking you have to do to make things work. Probably best to install and let us know what happens.

Ok the program actually completed a full install but it won't show up on the programs list (not a surprise given the age of the program) and from that point forward you can't do anything with it. I can find a folder and some of the files in a file search but other than that its as if the program doesn't exsist.

I arrived in the wing commander Universe late and I hoped this could get me into the swing of things until I could get my hands on a copy of prophacy which should work on xp.

any help in getting this program to work would be greatly appriciated.
 
As best as I have tried, P2 won't work under XP, at least on my system--but that could be because of my ATI video card. If you wanna try it on yours, download the P2 for Windows patch from the CIC files, make a shortcut on your XP desktop to DARK.EXE, right-click on the new icon and select Properties from the menu. Click the 'Program' tab, then 'Advanced' button, then check the box next to 'Prevent MS-DOS programs from detecting Windows.'

If you are able to get it to work this way, make sure you also copy SETS.IFF from the P2 disc into your C:\DARK directory, or you may have hang-ups trying to land at certain bases.
 
Just jumping into the thread...
Has anybody made the P2 Windows upgrade/patch work with Windows XP? I've tried it and it seemed to work fine until after the joystick calibration screen where it crashes back to the desktop, ie. no spaceflight.

Alright I've given up on trying to get Priv 2 to work it may be a good game but its just more trouble than its worth. So are there any space flight sims out there that are similar to Priv 2 or Wing commander that might be worth my time
