Privateer 2 Problems

A while ago, I bought a copy of Privateer 2. I've tried all the computers I own, with XP and 98, and they don't work. When run on 95, Privateer 1 works fine, but Privateer 2 has an installation problem. It says I need a mouse driver to run it. I just got a set of sealed floppys with the driver, installed it, and nothing changed. Any suggestions?

Strange.....No difference in 95 or 98 vs XP? I have read about folks having difficulty getting the DOS version to work in Windows 95, and I'd imagine 98 would be about the same. My guess is that XP would be worse. They experienced many problems varying from mouse and joystick support to it-just-won't-work issues. Me, I bought a DOS copy too. I asked some questions about it here a few months back and was told it was fairly easy to fix, but I found a "Native Windows 95" version of the game that was reasonably priced and bought it because I'm lazy sometimes. There are several threads in the Tech Support forum that will help you. They seemed to make a lot of sense. I just looked over there and saw a few dealing specifically with P2 problems on the first two pages of threads alone. Good luck.

Try to either install the (inofficial) DOS to windows 'patch' or try to run it in Windows 98 when havin told the command line to NOT DETECT WINDOWS in the settings.

Hmm, it should work fine on your win95 or win98 system (although you may need to get a slow down utility if it runs to fast). Okay, I assume you have followed this procedure?

1. Put disk 1 into your cd rom drive.
2. Open up your ms-dos command prompt (within windows 95/98).
3. Typed: "d:" (swap in whatever letter you CD Rom drive is).
4. Typed "Install"
5. Followed the onscreen prompts to setup your sound and joystick (if applicable)
6. Allowed the game to completely install (as noted by the burning fuse at the bottom of the page).
7. Exited the MS-Dos prompt.
8. Right Clicked on the MS-Dos Prompt Icon, select the properties and then checked "Force program to run under Windows."
9. Open up your MS Dos command prompt.
10. Typed "Cd\dark" and then press enter and then type "dark" and press enter.

That is the complete instructions for running the game in Win 95 and 98, has never failed on the 7-8 machines I tried it on.
