Privateer 2 - mysterious SETS.IFF

I just noticed something...

All the game content on the CD's of Privateer 2 for DOS and the Deluxe version for Win95 seems identical (based on file sizes, I haven't done an actual comparison) with the exception of the SETS.IFF file.

This file exists on all three discs in both versions and 5 out of 6 of them are the same size, however the one on Disc 1 of the Deluxe version is slightly larger.

First off, does anyone know exactly what content is in the SETS.IFF file? Secondly, does anyone know why that file is different?
 
I believe sets are literally the "sets." All the background locations you visit on planets. Any minor file differences could just be the result of differences in how Windows and DOS interact with files.
 
Hmm, I guess that is possible.

I find it odd however that this is the only data file that seems to differ between the dos and windows versions.

Odder still is that the dos version has three same-size versions of this file, while the windows version has two which match the dos version and one which is different.

I wonder if there might be some sort of additional detail in one of the sets in the windows version.

I don't suppose anyone has deconstructed one of these files?
