Privateer 2 joystick problems

I have Privateer 2 installed (Deluxe version) and I am trying to get my joystick calibrated correctly so I don't have to use the mouse. The joystick is all screwy though. The cursor is stuck in the bottom right corner in the deadzone calibration screen. I tried adjusting it with the - and = buttons, but no go. I can get my joystick stable enough so that my ship flies in a straight line without drifting, but when I pitch up or down it will only move downward. Are there any special tricks to get the joystick to work right? I have a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB.

Privateer 2 will not detect USB joysticks. This is a common problem with Dos-based games such as X-Wing and TIE Fighter. Dos does not contain USB support. The first OS to contain USB support is a special pack for Windows 95, which means that any time you run the game on an OS earlier then Windows 98 you won't have a functional USB joystick.

One solution is to use a program such as MyJemm or DosBox (I don't know much about either, but Dosbox detects USB joysticks in a format Dos-games can recognize) to run your game inside a windows enviornment which will detect a USB joystick.

Other people may have more help then this, but there's your problem, at any rate.

I guess I should have mentioned that this is the Deluxe version of Privateer 2. It does recognize my joystick, it just does not work very well at all.
