Privateer 2 in Win 2000, with a Gforce 2

Spaceman
When I try to install the game, I get this message:

Error! Installation requires an VESA compatible BIOS.

Does anyone know how to make this game work on a 2000 based system, using a GForce2?
If not, how about XP?

In advance, thanks!

I believe so, but, I am not sure.
I just borrowed the CD today. The files look like they are DOS based, and they fire up that ol' DOS command promt when you run then, so I would think so, yes.

Have you ever made this game run on Win2000?

I just tried for three hours trying to get P2 DOS version to install on Win2000. I don't belive this game can be install on Win2000. This is a DOS game. The Win95 version will run.

aha

So, there is no way I can make this copy run on my system.

I would have to install win98 to do so?

How do I get the Win version of the game?
Is there any file I could download, or somthing, that could install the game, using the DOS based CD's that I have?

Is there any easy solution? :)

First, for Win2000 if you are using NTFS you can not play any game in DOS real mode. There is no DOS mode, NTFS is design this way for security. If you are using FAT32 than you can with a Win9x bootdisk. In case you are not aware you can not convert NTFS to FAT32.

Win98: Yes with can but you need a sound card with SB Emulation. The MB sound chips with SB Emulation just don't work very will.

There are two ways to get P2 running in Win98. The first is with a win98 bootdisk in DOS real mode. The second is in a Win98 DOS box.

When you decide how to proceed we can help you.

Also, you can dual-boot. With dual-booting you can have both win98 and 2000 on the same system. The easiest way to do this is to use Parition Magic. This program will re-size the HDD's parition and it has a wizrard to help you do this.

It has a program call Boot Magic. Make sure make the Boot Magic bootdisk, you are going to need it. Make sure you backup all your data. Make sure you read the manual if you descide to go this way.

So one solution is to run priv2(dos) on w2000 with a win98 boot disk? How this?
I had a quite good dos-boot-disk (over 6oo free memory) for my old pentium, but i´m afraid i can´t find dos-drivers for the new mouse, soundcard, videocard, CD-Rom so it won´t work on the new computer.
What do you exactly mean with "win9x boot-disk"???

The DOS that came with win 95 and win 98 (7.0) can read FAT32. Dos 6.22 or earlier cannot. Thus the "win9x boot-disk".
