Alright, Privateer 2 was probably my favorite game but a few years ago I put it aside and upgraded my pc. Now unfortunately I cant get it to run. I've done a bit of searching on the forums and found a few threads about it, did the thing about getting the patch and installing it in '98. Install went fine, patched it, and tried to run the game. Got this error-

Privateer 2 Fatal Error - SNAFU - EAM_initsound Failed 3, Digital sound hardware not found

How can I fix it?

Ahh, finally got the sound problem fixed...mainly. Now I've gotten the game running, with sound even, but perhaps a bit too much sound lol. When new scenes are loading there's a bloody loud beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeping noise. As soon as normal game sounds start it stops and everything works fine. Until the next scene/area has to load. I have no idea why but I sincerely hope someone here does, cause it drives me nuts.

Secondly, my pc's too fast dammit. How can I slow it down? I've got moslo and tried to use that, but it only works on .exe or .com files, and I don't seem to be able to change the MS-DOS program detecting windows property on the Dark.exe. Anything else I can do?

Hope you can help

Ah, speed problem wasn't what I thought it was. Game and movies run fine, just the animations in the customs/whatever rooms run fast. The sound problem is still there though. It seems like whenever there isn't any in-game sound (when going from landing to customs, customs to new place on planet, taking off) this whining noise pops up. It's very loud and quite annoying, but thankfully they're the only places it occurs. Anyone know what could be causing it and how to fix it?

What soundcard do you have ?

Some soundcards can emulate older ones.Look at your drivers
I got a SoundBlaster Audigy and I emulate it so it is a SoundBlaster 16 in DOS mode.Everything (including Privateer2) has excellent sound

Ah, sound in game is fine, just when loading new areas I get that whine. I've only got a creative vibra128, which doesn't have any dos drivers, hence running things in w98.
