I can't get Privateer 1 to run on my machine.

I have a
win 98 based 333mhz 32 ram and plenty of space
i use a msoft sidewinder and one of those laser mouses.

Install isn't a problem, but when i try to run the game, it restarts in ms dos, then freezes completely up.

I tried doing a boot disc but got the same results. Whenever it starts to load, it locks up.

Any help would be cool. Thanks
 
Judging from the threads here, Privateer is one of the most difficult WC games to run on newer computers.

Post the system files from your boot disk - that's always a good start.
 
Have you tried running it without sound? A lot of the problems I had with getting Privateer 1 to run was with the sound card. Please check if this might be the problem by turning the sound off.
 
Um... also... don't run it in Windows. Windows will attempt to run it in DOS mode. Boot your computer into DOS (Press F8 when it reads "Starting Windows 98"), and it should work.

Of course, that also requires finding drivers and whatever for your sound card for DOS, but that shouldn't be a problem.
