Hello all,

I spent the past several hours rebooting again and again from windows and dos trying different configurations and coming back here looking for answers. Below is a list of my findings that I hope will prove useful to other people wishing to relive the privateer experience.

First off for those whose sound card uses an IRQ not listed in the Priv1 INSTALL. Manually edit the sound.cfg file to reflect your settings, which worked for me. It looks something like this:

2 1
904 11 -1 -1
544 11 1 5
2 2

Here is the breakdown:

ID's music card to priv
2 1

Port, IRQ, DMA-lo, DMA-hi for music card
904 11 -1 -1

Port, IRQ, DMA-lo, DMA-hi for speech card
544 11 1 5

ID's speech card to priv
2 1

the - negative in front of a number causes priv to ignore it. Like when you set no speech the third line would read:
-1 -1 -1 -1

I've no idea how 904 and 544 both translate to port 220, but the IRQ and DMA's on that line are fair game for you to set without problems.

Just an FYI.

Now SBLive. I downloaded the SBLive dos emulation from LiveCenter which i found at driverguide:
http://atlas.hemmet.chalmers.se/livecenter/showpage.php?id=39

That finally got priv up with music but the speech was absolute garbage. After much headache I finally got it. The default setup taken from the .zip autoexec looks like this:
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 T6

That will not work!! I don't remember what the T sets, maybe num of channels or something but removing the P330 and changing the T6 to T4 like this:

SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 T4

Fixed my sound problem. So YEAH I'm playing privateer again!!!

Also I found some great links to get DOS 6.22 and a bunch of other utilities from MS.

full dos i think, haven't installed yet so not sure
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/stepup.exe
extra/updated utils
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/sup622.exe

I don't know if this is some kind of back door to ms or what, I could not find this stuff by going through their site. I found them here with a bunch of other MS dos listings:

http://www.powerload.fsnet.co.uk/msdos.htm

Good Luck, and thats all I have to say! Thank you for your time.

P.S. I don't imagine I'll be checking these forums very often, if I can be of assistance to someone feel free to email me AFTER you read the many tech support posts here and are still stuck. end_fsg@hotmail.com

What a mess... I think that I'll have to make a K62/400 with a GeForce and SoundBlaster, install Win98SE and play old games on DOS mode.

FYI: The "T" stands, I believe, for "type"; that is, what type of sound card ya gots.

I have no idea how to distinguish whether a card is T1, T2, whatever, but I recall stumbling across that info a few years back when I had some sound prob's....

The P stands for MIDI port IIRC.
The T is type as follows:
T1: Soundblaster 1.0/1.5
T2: Soundblaster Pro 1.0
T3: Soundblaster 2.0
T4: Soundblaster Pro 2.0/3.0
T5: Soundblaster MCV
T6: Soundblaster 15/16 ASP or 32 AWE.

As to the original poster: When using 6 did you try to reduce the EMM memory to less or equal 16 mb?
