Yes, you do! All windows machine have one. It's in the windows directory. Do a find files "DOSSTART.BAT".

thats all thats in it
This is the driver you need.

Modify the SET PATH line to look like this.
SET PATH=A:\;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND\DOSDRV;

This is how the sound settings should like in the Autoexec.bat. I'm not sure if you need the SET SNDSCAPE=C:\WINDOWS line. If it prompts for it just remove the REM. Do a find file for CTSYN.INI and change the SET CTSYN line to reflex it's location.

SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H7 P330 T6 J200
SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS
SET SBPCI=C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND\DOSDRV
REM SET SNDSCAPE=C:\WINDOWS
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E MODE:0
DIAGNOSE /S
MIXERSET /P /Q
C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND\DOSDRV\SBINIT

ive managed to write it all except the ctsy.ini(sp?) file and i cant find it anywhere, where should it usualy be?

The CTSYN.INI file should be either in c:\windows or C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND

In the C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND\DOSDRV there should be a test program you could use in DOS to test the sound card.

only one i found was a ctsetup.ini

O'kay then remove the SET CTSYN=C:\WINDOWS line. Does your sound card work now?

[Edited by Johnl12 on 06-23-2001 at 05:03]

no :(

It DOESNT recognise the diagnose lines or midi snyth lines
but more importantly it doesnt load whatever driver i need because the sbinit fails saying driver not detetcted

O'kay, do a find file for the SBINIT.COM. Lets verify it's location.

Are you sure this is a SB16 PCI card? Usually it's install it's drivers to C:\SBPCI. The C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND\DOSDRV\ just does not sound right for the SB16 PCI card. Every card has it's own way of working in DOS. If this card is not a SB16 PCI card then the settings I gave you won't work. I really think that is may be a SBPCI 128 card.

Check the Device Manager under Sound, Video, and Joystick for your sound card ID. Remember that SB16 Emulation does not mean this card is a SB16 sound card. It only means it emulates a SB16 card.

the sbinti is defintly in the dosdrvs section

and it IS a sb16pci, said so on the box :)

the details in devince manager are as follows

SoundBlaster AudioPCI
1995-2000copyright
Driver Date is 03-30-2000

Here is a list of EVERYTHING that it installed onto my HD

C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\
- CTSETUP(folder)
- ShareDLL (folder)
- CTSND (folder)
- + MISC Extra Product crap

C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTSETUP\
- clnuti.dll
- clnutl16.dll
- ctpcir32.dll
- ctsetup.exe (sets up the install)
- ctsetup.ini
- sbpapci9x.ini
- setuprc.dll

C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\ShareDLL\
- CTRES32.DLL
- CTSPEA32.DLL

C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTSND\
- BITMAP (folder) - contains no files
- DOSDRV (folder)
- HELP (folder) - contains help files only, no .ini, .exe, .com's or anything of use
- MEDIA (folder) - contains sample play files only
- PROGRAM (folder) - contains creative wavestudio program files only
- delsl1.isu

C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTSND\DOSDRV\

- SBCFG.EXE
- SBINIT.COM

- SBTEST.EXE

The SBINIT.COM is getting loaded up but the problem is that it doesnt SEE i have a card in the machine as its not got the drivers to run it in dos mode..... in windows2000 it runs perfectly as i can use the SBTEST.EXE to tst the card

hope this helps u help me :)

Try these settings after you downloaded the Creative PnP Configuration Manager.

SET SBPCI=C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND\DOSDRV
SET CTSYN=C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND\DOSDRV
SET SOUND=C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H7 P330 T6 J200
SET CTCM=C:\CTCM
C:\CTCM\CTCU /S /W=C:\WINDOWS
REM LH C:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\CTSND\DOSDRV\SBINIT.COM

If it still doesn't work then it's has to be the drivers.
Download these drivers and read the README.TXT.
http://www.high-tech.com/drivers/sbbasic.exe
I know how to set these up.

:( this is taking forever

Thanx for ur help man but we are getting there slowly, i hope!

Well, i now have a new line in my config sys, a folder called plugplay

i cant run the sbbasic.exe because even when i boot up with a win98 startup disk and run from dos mode it tells me im IN windows95

So i downloaded the cfg program which made up the plugplay folder for me - useless as i cant run any of the files in it as they need win 3.1x..... so i dont know what the point of that was

and there IS no folder named CTCM on my hardrive? was i to get that from the sb basic?

For the CTCM (sb16cfg.zip) did the "install.exe" create the PLUGPLAY folder? If it did then change
SET CTCM=C:\CTCM
C:\CTCM\CTCU /S /W=C:\WINDOWS
to
SET CTCM=C:\PLUGPLAY
C:\PLUGPLAY\CTCU /S /W=C:\WINDOWS

If not then create a folder C:\CTCM and copy though files into it. Post your email address and I email you the DOS drivers for the sb16 pci.

Doesnt seem right

let me tell u my email is unicorn_uk80@hotmail.com

and the install created the following directories

C:\PLUGPLAY\
- Drivers (folder)
- ICU (folder)
- Readme.txt
- Readme.com

C:\PLUGPLAY\DRIVERS\
- DOS (folder)
- WINDOWS (folder)

C:\PLUGPLAY\DRIVERS\DOS\
DWCFGMG.SYS
ESCD.???

C:\PLUGPLAY\DRIVERS\WINDOWS\
- CSLIBW.DLL
- VCAD.386
- VCMD.386
- WINCM.DLL

C:\PLUGPLAY\ICU\
- DB (folder) - contains LOTS of database files, too many too list
- CASSIST.???
- CASSIST.EXE
- DIR-_WIN.DAT
- ICU.EXE
- ICU.HLP
- ICUHELP.DAT
- ICUSETUP.EXE
- ICUSETUP.INI
- ICCUG.HLP
- SYSTEM.PSP
- UNICODE.DAT
- UNICODE.FNT
- WINICU.EXE

I could not email the ctcm files. Too large for my dialup connection. I finely found then on CL web site. They really did a good job hiding them. CL is not making the DOS drivers easy to find. ctcmbbs.exe is a self extracting file. Once you have extract them copy them to C:\CTCM

http://www.clok.creaf.com/creative/patches/ctcmbbs.exe

This is the self extracting Win9x DOS drivers. Copy them to the C:\SB16. Read the Readme.txt file to manually install this drivers. This is the file I sent you.
