Priv 2 Deluxe crash

Snake05

Spaceman
Hey all. I've seen some other threads on this, so forgive me for starting a new one, but most of the others eventually devolve into setting and patches for the DOS based version or DosBox settings.

Anyway, this is for the WINDOWS version.
Like many, the game crashes when attempting to leave Hermes. The launce screen loads, completes, then there's a brief span of engine noise and the screen goes black and the program crashes with the following:

"DDWin.exe - Application Error
The exception breakpoint.
A breakpoint has been reached.
(0x80000003) occurred in the application at location 0x7c9012e.
Click OK to terminate the program."

Now for the general system info and the things I've already tried.
P4 3.2Ghz
1Gb ram
ATI X800 XT - PE with catalyst 8.12 drivers.
Windows XP w/ SP3 and all updates since.
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS with most recent drivers.
I have antivirus and firewall software running, but I've tried it with them disabled indvidually and togehter with no impact.
I have a joystick, but I've tried it with the joystick installed, uninstalled, and the HID components disabled/uninstalled through device manager.
I've tried to run the game using the windows compatability settings for Win95, Win98/ME & 2000. None work.
I've copied the entire contents of the CD to the HDD and changed the DARK.cfg to reflect this: No impact.
I have an onboard soundcard, but it is disabled via the chipset BioS and there are no loose drivers floating around (first thing I checked).
I've tried the DXsetup and disabled the hardware acceleration.

Has anyone gotten the Deluxe version to run under WinXP??
Any and all input (not relating to DosBox settings or the DOS version of the game) gladly accepted.
If anyone has ideas or has gotten this to work, please advise.

Thanks all.

Just to make sure, did you run compatibility mode on Dark.exe in the hard drive installation folder and not on a CD file or short cut?

Have you also tried the speed patch to see if the game reacts any differently with it? http://download.wcnews.com/files/p2/priv2_slowdownpatch.zip

Have you tried disabling video transitions from the options menu before launching into space?

In addition to DirectDraw hardware acceleration, there is Direct3D acceleration. Have you tried disabling both? I would also try disabling specific features like anisotrophic filtering/full-screen antialiasing.
