Posting an Avatar

Can you only post a personalized avatar picture after a certain post count on this forum? When I go to change my avatar, the circle is always clicked that doesn't allow me to add it. I understand if "rank has its priveledges" ---Christopher Blair WC3.. But if it's an error, how can I get the box unclicked?
 
You need 2000 posts to get an avatar or you have to be arwarded the privilege by doing something great for the community.
 
...that's a question that always has me hooked: What is "doing something great for the community"?

Can someone, anyone, maybe set up a totally hypothetical and non-copycat-inducing scenario of what is a "great deed"?

Not that I think that everyone should now strut around on a quest to slay the EA dragon - but it might be beneficial for the community if people knew that having a great idea, or scavenging garage sales for movie items, or unearthing some hidden fact (and being, above all, modest about it) might qualify.

Otherwise, if this is more the mystery blessing, it should also be worth some lines of explanation - before people start sending all-protein salad recipes to Loaf and Chris.
 
I assume it would mean you're helping the site in some way. Like an administrator, helping with web design, updating links, etc.. 1,843 posts to go until you can see my fighter pilot avatar!!! Well, I'm just excited to get to the rank of Major so it better matches my call sign name :cool:

I personally think that the current ranking avatars are a good idea. - It makes you even prouder if you get a new rank instead of just changing the rank name. :D
Anyway, no idea what rank-name I should choose if I ever hit the 2000, neither which avatar to choose :confused: ;)

I know both already, but it's unlikely either of us will hit 2000 anytime soon. People with custom ranks and avatars are on the board since at least 5 years.

There is no "EA Dragon" - only people who think theres one.

The CIC will still be here in five years.

Most active members reach 2000 post in two years or so.
 
How important is having an avatar or a 'higher rank' anyhow? I was honored to recieve an avatar for a while. Although I wasn't thrilled at the time, it was damn funny. I wonder how my birds are doing. I hope they're okay.

Anyhow, I guess my point is. The point of the forums is a place to talk to other, like-minded people, get tech support, find out about mods, and discuss the universe itself. Not to obtain an abitrary rank or some title.
