Pocket PC Software

Hi, I just got a new phone with Windows Mobile 5 and all that stuff. I've gotten some suggestions from Bob and Hades, but does anyone else have recommendations for neat stuff I should check out? Bob suggested a bunch of those PDA space sims that were in the news like Anthelion or Interstellar Flames.

I see there's some interface tweaks. Some of those look like they might be alright. Not sure I want to change too much of that stuff, but it'd be nice to replace the Calendar button on the lower left bar to Windows Media Player.

Is there a good divx player that works on WM5? Our old 60 meg Academy tv episodes are 320x240, the same resolution as my screen here. I've got some of AD's low-res wmv music videos running, and they look really neat.

Otherwise, the only thing that I really installed is wmirc to stay connected to #Wingnut, and that works quite well.

Use TCPMP (The Core Project Media Player) - it's one of the best players around.

http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/

Tsk... 240x320. The high quality WCA episodes look very nice on TCPMP here (though, my PocketPC has a VGA screen). I don't know about the old low-res ones though. Depending on which PocketPC you have, you may or may not have enough CPU power to decode them in real time.

I use the 0.72rc1 version and plugins. Don't get the 0.71 plugins - get the 0.72rc1, and download the zip filles for each of the plugins you want. Inside the zip files are plugins for all versions of TCPMP (Windows, PocketPC, Palm, etc).

But from the principle it is a PDA. whether MDA or PDA. Mobile phone or not. the software is identical up to little things.

I have even a PDA Axim x50v of DELL, resolution 480x640

I use the TCPMP, too. It is a super Software :)

here my style on my PDA:

based on WisBar Advanced 2

Cool...

I actually made a PDA version of the WC movie and put it on an SD card... But I think the sound was out ouf sync slightly in the middle for some reason and have been meaning for a long time to try reencoding it. I think it ran around 250 MB though I might be able to shrink it by tweaking the audio encoding.

I just need an 8GB CF card so I can stick in the high-res WCA episodes. Nothing like playing full screen full res on a PDA! (Dell Axim x51v - same as the x50v, except it has twice the flash (256MB vs. 128MB) and runs Windows Mobile 5 rather than Ozone (PocketPC 2003SE)).

Though, playing through wifi from a file server works just peachy...

Edit: One of the coolest apps for PocketPC is SlingPlayer Mobile - but only if you have a Slingbox... even better if you have an unlimited data plan.

My Dell axim x50v have:

under Info:
Windows Mobile 2003 second Edition, Version 4.21.1088 (Build 14260.2.0.5)
Prozessor: Intel(R) PXA270
RAM: 61.75 MB

and i play movies with full resulotion of 480x640 or 640x480 (TCPMP)! And I have no problems with it.
