Okay, I've got Kilarthi saga Installed on my old 266Mhz Laptop with Win 98. everything runs just fine, and runs much better (because slower) than the original, Dos Wing Commanders. Still I have to complain about WC1 and WC2, I know their physics differ much from newer games, as the afterburners kick you right into velocity 3x faster than maximum speed, but you can get used to it.
Still, my WC2 works damn fast. I can handle simple missions, when I don't have to defend friendly crafts. But in escort and such - man, the allied ships are blown into pieces in few seconds.
Remember the first mission in WC2, in which you had to escor two Broadswords to kill that kilrathi Capship? I tried the mission couple of times, and I must say, that I was just lucky that one of them Broadswords eventually got close enough to the Capship and destroyed it. Because there was really nothing I could do to protect the BSword. As I said - luckily it got to it's target.
It's not like the Kilrathi is too fast. I am. I had so much trouble piloting those nimble Ferrets, that when they finally let me fly a BSword I felt relieved. A slow, powerful ship, whith which I don't have to worry I'll pass by my target, or overmaneuver it confusing myslef as well.
Is that game really this fast, or I need to slow my CPU down using somek ind of software? I'm asking you, becasue I've never played the original WC2 before.
Moreover, the buttons don't seem to work well. They sometimes lock-up, and I end up in firing my guns all the time until I press the mouse button again. It doesn't happen i other games.
