Try SciTech's Display Doctor thingy. I think it's freeware now. Works for all sorts of crazy DOS video problems.

(I had crazy flashy video in DOS for a while... couldn't figure out how to fix it... turned out it was the light in my fishtank... turning it off made my DOS stuff work fine.)
