Odd WC2 problem

I am running WC2 Deluxe CD edition with Dosbox...so far so good.
Now I want to transfer my WC1 Pilot to WC2 and there comes the problem

I can't typ the \ for the directory...I only can typ c: but not the \
Does anyone else knows the problem or has a solution for this?
Beside that I can only type the : no . , - or other things like it.

Found out that I have got the : on two keys... the : and the ö both with shift.

Could it be thats the dosbox mixes up a german and english keyboard configuration?

Simply use / instead of \ - that works, at least for me ;)

EDIT: And, no it doesn't "mix up" German and English layout, but simply only uses the English layout. And if the above method does not work: "Ä" is the \ if I remember correctly.
EDIT2: Oh, just noticed: It REALLY mixes them up (some keys two times) - there is no more \ in DosBox this way. But I think there is a method to get the English layout, but forgot how.

Well I found a way to change my keyboardsetting to a english version, but now I got the problem that I can typ the folder, but then nothing happens and I got only back to the "new Pilot" "old Pilot" screen.

Does anyone knows what path to enter there when using dosbox? IIRC Dosbox emulates some different patition for dos...but what?

First: are you trying to transfer a pilot from Wc1 SM2 or WC1 itself? Cause I was unable to transfer a pilot from SM2, but could do so with a pilot from the original campaign.
The folder is, e.g. (if c:\Wing is your wing commander folder): C:\Wing\Gamedat\

If you are trying to transfer a pilot from WC1 SM2, you might try wcsav.exe (see File-Section on www.wcnews.com). I had to do that, cause otherwise I couldn't transfer my pilot. (Btw, the funny thing is, I just transfered my pilot before you posted here :D ) - I even had to create a new WC1 pilot and to edit the data manually, cause transfering didn't work from sm2 to wc1 :(
I hope this helps you...

Well now I got another problem..DosBox crashed in Mission 2 after killing all Cats.

EDIT: Problem solved...there is a file called loadfix. Just make sure you load it befor running the game and everything will run fine.

Yes, that's it. ;) - Maybe you noticed that I posted it in another Thread in this forum. :)
Or you just checked the DosBox database, cause it's mentioned there, too. Anyway: Have fun with WC2 ;)

Yep...flighing the old fighter again is quite some fun....even if the graphiks are a little old...but its fun.

if anything else fails I'd copy savegame.wld and crusade.wld from your WC1 directory into the directory WC2 takes by default.

Yes, I'm having the same problem as the person above, in that, I type out the directory path, hit enter at which point, I'm sent back to the create or transfer screen.

I feel i should point out, i got both WC1 and WC2 from abandonia. If it is wrong to talk about getting these from here, then i guess I'll have to live with py problem

Wing commander can be found in many of these abandonware/DOS compilations, but I'm pretty sure it's not abandonware! (It's abandonware when nobody holds the license anymore, or it was never registered in the first place as a trademark, and the company who built it had gone the way of the dodo and the creators do not really care about it anymore. Games from "windmill games", like sopwith, conquest, digger, those are abandonware.

Wing 1 deluxe CD is hard to come by these days, or quite expensive. Wing commander 2 deluxe CD you can find on any marketingsite.

Also, you might just make it yourself easy and go for this Kilrathi saga copy on ebay The secret missions you can download from this site in the files section.

The dosbox version plays better, but I never had any real problems with KS(except for the WC1 music locking up after a "heroic/victorious/whatever" kill and playing that tune in and endless loop until you reached the debriefing. And I think the WC3 video problem was fixed by some guy in the tech support last month.
