Need serious tech help...

Roseblood

Spaceman
I am having serious problems with WC 3,4 & Pro. I have already tried all the fixes mentioned here... Nothing works. So what I need is someone who can take the time and help me through it over the phone. It would be better for me this way as it is easier to explain what is happening and get instant feedback on whats wrong and what to do. If there is anyone here who can help, and is resonably close to Long Beach, CA, please send me a PM.

Thank you.

Maybe you should first just say what problems you are encountering. Are you trying to run them via dosbox? Also, if you want instant feedback and support, I suggest you just join the CIC #wingnut irc channel. There is usually someone knowledgeable there that could help you out.

Your right, thank you. But you see I know so little about computers that I am still having problems with the cup holder! :D Seriously though, for one I dont know what dosbox is. I can tell you that my opp sys is XP. I downloaded the fix for Pro and it worked... Until I got to one of the later missions and now I get a fatal error. With WC3, (I have the KS version), I get it loaded and even with trying ALL the fixes, it still crashes after the first movie. WC4, (for Win95), I get a fatal error from just putting the damn disk into the drive, It wont even let me START to instal it.

So you see, I need someone who can walk with me through these problems. It is a new computer I bought recently and I hate the idea of never beeing able to play my favorite games ever again. If I cant fix this, then my only other recourse is to get a PS3... Maybe not a bad idea...? Anyway, thank you again for your help.

Well, for the install program for WC4, right-click on it, click on Properties, go under the Compatibility tab, check "run this program in compatibility mode for", then click on Windows 95. Apply. OK.

Hope that helped. :D

I've found a lot of the time that people emphasis that they've tried ALL of something, there's a bunch of stuff that they've missed. It's more helpful to describe what you have done specifically. maniac's compatibility mode suggestion was the first thing that popped into my mind as well.

It's a very bad idea if you're choosing it as your sole alternative to play Wing Commander games. You can get a PS1 and play the two Playstation Wing Commander games for $550 less. As far as paying lots of money for a console just to play two Wing Commander games goes, even a PSP or 3DO would be a better choice.

You are right Chris, many people do think they have tried all the options. But you see, as a computer-chalenged person, all I can do is what I find here, (all of which I have done), and the FEW things I know how to do with my comp. I did try the Compatibility tab with all 3 games actualy, to no effect at all. I ran a conflict check, and nothing is conflicting. I shut down all un-nessesary programs and certainly have enough space.

You are also correct in my PS idea. There are a few other games I wouldent mind having for that console, but not enough to justify buying one. Same idea aplies to Xbox. Got the first one, have lots of games, wont buy 360 cuz I just want 3 games for it.

Thank you so much for your ideas and opinions, I mean it. :)
