Need help with Wing Commander : Secret Ops !

Greetings ladies and gentlemen,

In 2002 I've downloaded the full (and legal) version of Wing Commander : Secret Ops. Everything was working fine until recently when I changed my 233 MHz (Voodoo 2 3Dfx card (12 MB)) for a brand new 3.0 GHz (with a GeForce 128 MB). Now, I can't play the game ! When I click on the "Play" button, the game emmidiately crash and when I click on the "Select Video Card" button I receive an error message saying that it can't find the file "glide2x.dll". After searching over the Internet, I found out that this file was a part of a program called "3Dfx Glide" wich was used for the Voodoo chipset.

Now, what must I do to get the game working ? I tryed to re-install the game many times.

Please note that I have DirectX 9.0b installed.

The main questions for me would be:
a) Did you do a complete reinstall of the operating system
b) Did you change the operating system (to XP maybe where it was 98SE before?)
My first suggestion would be to try the 9x compatibility modes of XP if that is your OS.

I had the same problem. First you could download the file(I did), then make your SO setup & .exe file comp with Win95. Basicly this solved my problems.

Got it, I found the problem !

I found in another thread that for XP users, you needed to make a shortcut and then set it compatible to Win98. And now it's working !

Thanks, anyway...

Only for your information, when I got the computer, it had XP Home installed but I formated the hard disk and replaced it by XP Professionnal.

Yeah, resetting the game to run in Win9x compatibility mode fixes problems in a whole lot of older games. Too bad the option is not more visible.
