Multiple Joysticks in WC1/Privateer?

Howdy,

I've been replaying Privateer (via DOSBox 0.72) and I noticed a joya.dat and joyb.dat in the x:\PRIVATER directory, but it doesn't seem to see my second joystick. I tried messing with the 4-axis/auto settings in the dosbox.cfg. I thought it worked the first time I played, (I may have been playing the Privateer Gemini Gold?) however it seems to not work anymore. First question: were 2 joysticks ever supported in pivateer? (CD version with RF). Second question, does WC1 support two joysticks? I have the WC1/WC2 combo CD coming in the mail. . .

Thanks for the website! I haven't been here in a few years, and man, what a GREAT game series to have such a robust website supporting it with such a vast amount of info!

What are 2 joysticks supposed to do? Its not like there is any multiplayer.
Not sure if privateer 1 already supportst Thrustmaster joysticks - if so I guess that is where the joyb.dat comes from (throttle/rudder support).

Some joysticks kan override keyboard features, but those devices were around ten years ago... a CH analog throttle from the dos-era could be used for throttle control in wing commander 1, 2, and privateer 1, etc.. and numerous other dos games, but in order for this to work you needed "helping applications" (TSR's) running in the dos enviroment.

2 joysticks = 4 axes. A joystick with a throttle/rudder control is like "two joysticks in one."

So I guess the throttle/rudder control does NOT function in Privateer or WC1? And there's no patches/utilities that anyone has made? (The "files" section of wcnews.com has no/sparse explanations of what the utils do. . .)

I think the first WC game with rudder control was WC4, and the Kilrathi Saga version of WC3. I don't think it's supported in WC1,2 or privateer at all.

You could use the other stick for throttle. I seem to recall doing that for the KS versions of WC1/2 with TM stick setup.
