Multiplayer?

Will Standoff have multiplayer functionaltiy seeing as Prophacy is getting a multiplayer makeover in the near furure?
 
We certainly hope to add multiplayer functionality eventually (...after it's actually ready to be used :p), but we have no immediate plans as to when this will happen. My personal estimate would be that it won't happen in episode 4, and it may even end up being done in a patch after episode 5 is done. Time and again, we've learned that adding a new feature when you're half-way through an episode leads to very big delays, and at this point, we're not big fans of delays - with an episodic storyline, it's just not fair to leave people hanging for longer than necessary between episodes. This is especially important when you consider that we'll want our multiplayer to be done as well as possible - which means it won't be something we can do overnight.
 
Quarto, seeing that episodes 2 and 3 had mission branches which are very well done, i was wondering have you and your team thought of the inclusion of 'plot desicions' and 'character morale'. Really good idea do you think...or not? Considering Episode 4 is a such a long way.

P.S. Is there also going to UE 2
 
If the the mulitplayer is out, couldn't you just make a simple Deatmatch typ?
So we have the standart play like in the Prophecy Mulitplayer just with your ships?
So no new design stuff, mission etc. just "enable" mulitplayer.

Of course, this "just enable" could be horrible difficult, i don't know, i just ask (with alot of please) that you wont hold it back, just because you wanna do some super duper with Multiplayer first, before you release it.

Neither plot decisions nor character morale are going to be included... but they're both already in there. You make a plot decision at the end of episode one, and if you pay attention to the comms, you'll also notice that Spoons is a lot more hostile after episode one. We're not going to do more than that, because we don't really see the need for it - the player can affect the story in all sorts of ways during combat already. All this is a lot of work, and we're definitely not going to add more plot decisions in cutscenes. We're not Origin, we don't have the time nor the resources for it.

I have no idea - I personally do not intend to work on UE2 (...or any other major project after Standoff - though never say 'never', I suppose), but I'm not the only person who worked on UE, so it may be that the rest of the team will continue.

That's exactly what we don't want to do, though - if we're going to add a new feature like this, we want to do it right.

Oh, UE was fun, you should embrace it. What else can the UBW improvise? Hornets with maces?
 
.. so are you guys adding multiplayer for episode 5? How about a patch after it's done?
 
No MP in Ep 5, currently no plans for any patch to Standoff itself after Ep 5. This will be the final release.

If it is ever up to me to do so, it would be a separate download/install from Standoff entirely. I'm not sure how easy it is to adapt content to the MP patch, but if it's as easy as taking Standoff's assets (ships, guns, etc) and adapting it to a different set of missions, it's something that could be looked into in the future (by us or by other modders).
 
I can't imagine it's too difficult to add content, it's probably just a matter of someone stepping up and taking the time to do it.

I know I'd love to take on a Hakaga with a wing of real wingnuts instead of those crazy WCP/SO AI pilots :p

As my Dad loves to tell me, it's good to want isn't it.
 
Then we should have some wingnuts flying the kilrathi fighters too... Two or three confed players vs Kilrathi AIs will be easy even in nightmare....
 
Yes, I very much enjoy co-operative multi-player. Free-for-all death-matches aren't very fun for me. :(

I wonder if you could accomplish this by simply compiling a mission with the right variables and overwriting the generic mission that loads for WCP/WCSO.

You'd have to know what those variables are, though...

I don't know...I can think of a few missions where 2 or 3 confees would get their asses handed to them :p
 
Like I said in my previous post to this thread, there will be no multiplayer in Ep 5, nor will there be a future multiplayer patch to Standoff. So, no. :p
 
I realise you were probably joking... but I think it would be nice to back off and just let them finish Episode 5 and get on with their lives.
