Movies run too fast in XP

I've heard of Quicktime, but this is ridiculous! I got out WC4 Prophecy to show my 6 year old, and we were totaly disappointed. I'm running on a 6 month old Dell P4/2gh with an Nvidia GeForce4-MX board. DirectX and DirectSound work great in other games. But in Prophecy, the movies play at about 3 times normal speed, and the sound is garbled. I've tried running in compatibility mode for 95, 98/Me, and 2000 and even tried a downloaded executable and dll supposedly patched for Windows 2000. Nothing works. Anybody know how to fix it?

a thousand thanks,

Firstly WCIV was the greatest game of all time, however it was named the price of freedom not Prophecy ;)

So assuming you mean Prophecy then the fix is simple, go start, then run, type dxdiag.exe, goto the sound tab and then set Hardware acceleration to nothing (the left most option on the moveable tab) :)

also another quick fix is to download one of the CPU slowdown utilities found on the files section of the CIC and slowdown your CPU by alot

No problem :) When beta testing UE I kept missing briefing voice overs no one else did, turned out it was down to the same problem so despite the FMV working fine for me the voiceovers in briefings were cutting out on me, I've been writing the FAQ today and the sound acceleration is gonna be issue number one :)

Sidewinder Gamevoice makes movies OK

After a mishap with WCPEDIT, I had to uninstall and reinstall Prophecy. Again the movies wouldn't work, but this time it wasn't too fast, it was having stuttering pauses every two seconds. Again I tried all the different compaitiblity modes to no avail.

Then I installed my new MS Sidewinder GameVoice. When it is running, the movies are pretty smooth. When it is off, the movies have the hesitations.

However, the voice commands I programmed don't get accepted, so the thing doesn't actually work for Prophecy. But at least the movies are good.

I am planning on getting the Sidewinder System Commander, and I hope it will work. One of the reasons I never got very far with Prophecy the first time is the inability to remap keys from Ctl and Alt keystrokes to something easier to reach out and hit in the heat of battle.
