Movie problems with WC prophecy in Win2000

Hi guys,

I was trying to play Wing Commander prophecy in Win2000 using the patch I found on the www.wcnews.com site and initially it worked well.

But the movie playback is weird. Small parts in the movie are skipped, so you miss out on some dialogue etc...

I thought that perhaps my cdrom player is too fast and there takes too much time too read the data and you get the "skips", but I copied the movie file to the harddisk and the same problem remains.

Anyone tried playing the game in Win2000? and have had similar experiences? Please help me.

Thanks
Ivar

I'm running WC: Prophecy with Win98 and I sometimes get the same problem. Little parts of movies skips, enough to miss one work or so... if that's the same thing, then i really wouldn't worry about it. However you if you missing the movie completely, then you have a problem

In case you haven't already, disabling sound acceleration in DirectX (C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\dxdiag.exe) is worth a try.

hey thanks, that did the trick!

I had the hardware acceleration of "full".
There are several levels for that in Direct X

Turning off hardware acc. didn't work either, cause the movies wouldn't play, but choosing the lowest acc. level (basic acc.) did the trick for me.
The video's play well now.

Ivar

Be sure to turn acceleration back to full after playing, or you might have problems with other softwares.

Dang....New problem.
The movie playback is fine now, but when I'm flying the first mission the game quits on me.

I'm at that kilrtahi ship, where the marines are checking it out and all of a sudden the game quits on me and throws me back to Win2000.

A window appears with the line: "Prophecy has generated errors. A log-file has been made"! (something like that).

First of all: I don't know where to find the logfile in order to find out what went wrong.....

Second: What did went wrong?
Any of this sound familiar? Has it anything to do with the patch I used (the Win2000 patch containing the exectuable for Prophecy)

Thanks for helpin' me out.
regards,
Ivar
