Ok, i got the game working (copied cd1 to directory, switched the dark.cfg to point at that instead of d drive)

The mouse works ok in all screens except for the pad. In the pad it freezes up, and the only way to move it is to hold the button down and sort of "fling" the mouse cursor by rapidly moving the mouse. This is extremely inefficient, and makes the game unplayable. Any way around this?

Win2k and Priv 2

At least you got the game running, thats a good start. Im on win2k and still getting VESA compliant problems. How did you manage to install it or get the dark.cfg

there was no trouble during installation......everything woks as it should. I inserted the this, doubleklick on Install.exe, seting up the sound -> able to play Priv 2
but i have this stupid mouse problem...

Hey, i got mine to work to. One thing you gotta keep in mind which i didnt is to run the game in full window mode to use VESA. I got a similar mouse problem in install. It like wont go past half the screen.

I think win2k and WinXp have similar problems with mouse. I cant answer you on the pad, but my mouse cant go past half the screen. Maybe we should try emulating the mouse or something.

I have the same problem with my mouse not working in the PAD, I tried useing it as PS2 rather than USB but that didn't work. I'm still trying stuff.

I fixed the mouse problem.

Here's what I did and how I got it all to work.

Step one use the VDMSound prog thingy. (Link: http://www.ece.mcgill.ca/~vromas/vdmsound/ )

Then get this mouse speed up prog as seen on this page : http://www.minnemacs.com/sandbox/xp.html

The file ("mousectl.com") from this page ( http://files.chatnfiles.com/Netware Super Library/MENU/MIS_UTIL/UTILITY/ )

( hell right click save as should work : http://files.chatnfiles.com/Netware Super Library/MENU/MIS_UTIL/UTILITY/mousectl.com )

Then edit the AUTOEXEC.VDMS file in the VDMsound Dir.
add this junk :

REM Make the mouse up to 1.5x more sensitive; 8 values
REM apparently provide acceleration as the mouse moves.
loadhigh c:\m\mousectl 5,6,10,15,15,15,15,15

Uber thanks to this guy's page http://www.minnemacs.com/sandbox/xp.html

Whoa! It works.

Thank you for coming up with those directions!!! They actually work. I'd been searching for quite a while when I stumbled onto these directions, and they actually work!

Problems that prolly won't be fixed, but are notable:
> Videos - they flicker, but oh well, I can deal with flickering cut scenes if I can play the game. They don't detract from playability at all.
> Mouse - my mouse problem was a little different, where during the options screen of flight it was no good. This fixed it to an extent, but it's still a little jerky at times. But, like I said for the video, it no longer detracts from playability, so it's all good.

Again, Kudos

Guys, I can't download that mousectl.com from any site you've pointed. Could you put it on ftp or send me via e-mail?

Thanks in advance

I had the same mouse problem, but found it was simply because the game was running way too fast on my computer. I first installed VDMsound to fix the sound issues with WinXP and Privateer 2, and then used a slowdown program (moslo but there are others). Everything works perfectly.

If the other way works too, that is great, but this seems much simpler, and I figure you want the game to run at the proper speed anyways, not 4x too fast.
