Mouse suddenly always pointing up in KS, WC1 and WC2 for Windows Vista 64

Been playing WC1 from the Kilrathi Saga for a week now and everything has run smoothly, but now suddenly every time I try to play the mouse cursor is pointing upwards every time I load it so that I can't select any options. The mouse even continues to do it when I Alt-Tab out of WC making it difficult to accomplish anything on the computer at all... I have to ctrl-alt-del and use tab to navigate to the kill process button just to shut the game off. Rebooting didn't help and I don't want to reinstall because I'm almost finish with the game! Any ideas?

I just confirmed it has nothing to do with my actual mouse as I unplugged it before I started and it's still happening in-game. Something with the config must have simply broken.
 
Don't use a joystick, I've been using my arrow keys.

Tried unplugging the keyboard now and the game cursor still went up on it's own.
 
The reason I asked about the joystick was because very often when I installed WC3 or 4 (never happened with Prophecy, I think?), it would always "pull" and usually to the upper corner like yours. I'd say check your mouse settings in control pannel. Are you running KS out of DOS Box?
 
Everything looks normal with mouse settings, and like I said the problem occurred with my mouse unplugged and again with my keyboard unplugged, so it seems to be a problem with game config. Although I reinstalled it and it still happened with the new copy so I'm confused...

Playing it through windows, no dosbox.
 
Ok I'm an idiot... a game controller that I didn't realize would work with it was lying upside down with the analog pressed up :p
