Mission Branches?

Hi, I've played Standoff episodes 1-3 and I'd like to pass on my thanks to the people who make it, it brings back the good old days of when I played Wing Commander on the SNES.

However, would it be possible to publish the mission branches, I enjoy playing the game and normally accomplish each mission or restart it until I do, but I would like to make sure I play all the missions that are available. Also, does the way in which you finish Chapter 1 for example affect the beginning of Chapter 2 or does it simply change the end cutscene and then you are put at the same point in chapter 2 as you would have been anyway?

Thanks in advance...

The end of episode 1 doesn't change the missions so far IIRC. It does however change the personal storyline/relations, be that in cutscenes or in mission chatter.

Generally speaking - yes, there is branching and yes, it also goes over the span of more then one episode. So no - the way you end an episode doesn't only change the end screen, but will have an impact later on.

As for mission branches - In episode 1 it is easy. Do good is one branch. Fail the first failable mission (IIRC the second mission) will put you in the loosing series of the prologue with a chance to win (loosing too many fighters will also get you there, but then it wil be extremely hard). Finally try to join the pirates.

E2 doesn't have any mission branches, however, depending on how you to with killing the Ralari you will get a different E3.

Actually, there are a few minute differences - there's a few situations where Bradshaw will take different wingmen depending on what happened with Sparrow.

Killing the Ralatha, that is.

Episode 1 has only one branch, and that one is obvious - you will fly different missions depending on the ship you choose at some point. The way you end Ep 1 doesn't affect the way Ep 2 starts (since Ep 2 starts months away from Ep 1) but a choice you make in Ep 1 will affect cutscenes and mission chatter throughout the rest of the game, all the way up to Ep 5.

Episode 2 also has only one branch, which is connected to killing the Ralatha (don't kill it at first, and you get an extra mission and a whole different Ep 3). This branch is connected to the way Ep 3 starts.

Ep 3 has a lot of branches. It can start in 2 different systems, and then there are a bunch of actions which will change future missions: let the fleeing Krants flee, lose the Verdun, don't kill the Snakeir, lose too many Minelayers, choose the Gladius or the Rapier, keep the Drake alive, keep the destroyers alive... all those variables affect one or some of Ep 3's missions at some point, and some of them also affect Ep 4.

Ep 3 can also end in two ways, and the splash screen you get at the end reflects this, so you can already know in advance if you've reached the 2 different starting points for Ep 4.

Is the path where you lose too many fighters where Freyers tells you to land and the Capella operation is aborted?

No, when you get a "game over" screen, that's not a path, that's an ending :). What Karl is referring to is that if you loose too many fighters in the second mission (you have to lose 4 Stilettos - but losing any more than that will produce the ending you mentioned :p), you will end up playing a different version of the third mission.

However, a far easier way of ending up playing that other version of the third mission is to fly the Lionheart straight to the jump point in the first mission. If you do so, you will end up playing the losing versions of mission 2 and 3, without having to squander all your Stilettos.
