Martok or Gowron?

Seventh Part of the Seal
In your opinion who was the better Chancellor of the high council?

Personally I thought Martok was the better of the two... simply because I like the one-eyed-warrior better. He had a better sense of humor and seemed less coruptable... at least that we've seen.

BTW has anyone read the latest ST novel? "Before Dishonor"

I have heard mixed reviews about it, but will probably wind up reading it anyway.

Then you're going to looooove me...

.. wait, nevermind.

Not yet -- but someday! I stopped buying Star Trek novels my last year of school to save money... and now I'm catching up on the books I missed. Give me a few months and I'll get to it.

Well I think the entire point of the last part of DS9 among other things was to show that Gowron's time was over. He had become too much of a politician, and when Martok, who was the time commander of the 9th fleet, began to become very popular in the Empire for his military successes in the Dominion War, Gowron felt threatened and took command of the Klingon Defense Force. He then began discrediting Martok by sending him into battles he could not win, while at the same time floundering the war effort. It wasn't until Worf killed Gowron, earning himself the chancellorship of the Empire and handing it over to Martok that the situation began to turn itself back around.

The whole point really was that Gowron was too much of a politician in a time when the Empire needed a great warrior at the helm. I'd say Martok is a better military commander than chancellor and things would have gone fine had Gowron not felt threatened by Martok.

Wouldn't sending your amy into hopeless battles and sqaundering lives and resoursec be considered 'currupt' and rather selfish behaivoir?

Gowron was never much of a politician, as proved by his attempt to grab the throne from Duras (and later reappearances) on TNG. He was more bloodthirsty and cunning, for sure. I do agree that DS9 tried to show that Gowron's time had past but never was easy to swallow. The whole "Worf kills Gowron, Worf gives the chair to Martok" thing was really too much at once. (I'd say the same for the last 10 episodes of the show though, since it had this giant build up and they rushed the wrap-up a bit too much. The show could've standed another episode or two just to make things a little less forced)
