Alrighty I have DOSbox v.0.63 which is that latest version as far as I can tell.

So far I have mounted C: and D: drives but when I try to run the WC3.exe I get the following message:

"EMS driver is not VCPI compliant"

What do I do? Any help would be appreciated.

As an experiment I tried to run the WC3.exe from a standard in windowsXP run command and the install and setup program and it ACTUALLY RAN!! I got the music working reasonably well but failed to get the sound to work.

I have a P4 1.7 with 512mb RAM and Soundblaser Live (5.1 I think) system.
Is there a way to properly determine the IRQ and DMA and I/O details?

Thanks!

PS: before I get told off I did spend over an hour searching through all existing threads on WC3 and found nothing that could help which why I'm asking like this.

The EMS message is super easy to fix. Just change EMS=true to EMS=false in dosbox.conf. However, a 1.7 GHz system is probably not powerful enough to emulate the game in DOSBox. You can try setting the core to dynamic, but this makes the game unstable.

Follow these steps to find your IRQ and other settinngs:
Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager button, then Sound-Video-Game Controllers tree. You might have a Legacy Audio Drivers Properties or maybe simply a Creative Soundblaster Live 5.1 option you can right click on. In the properties for these entries you can find what to plug into the WC3 installer. Could be something out there like IRQ17 that WC3 doesn't support however. Finding and installing the legacy audio drivers for your card could give you the option to set an IRQ that the game recognizes.

You can also look into VDMSound http://www.crius.net/zone/showthread.php?t=19757

Thanks!

Sadly WC3 actually struggles and even shites itself from time to time which totally ruins the gaming experience. Would Armada or Academy be easier to run with any special commands? (or WC1 or WC2 for that matter). Do I have to re-mount everything each and every time I start DOSbox? Any recommendations?

Long Live Wing Commander!

There is an autoexec section at the end of the dosbox.conf file that you can put the mounting lines in so that they are loaded everytime you start dosbox. As far as running wc3 smoothly you could try enabling the dynamic core option in the dosbox.conf file as well. It may cause dosbox to become more unstable and may make it crash more often. Armada and academy both require setting the cycles up as well so I would say that the tinkering will be about the same.

Thanks again!
I'll try that...
Has there been or will there be a pertition thingy for a new Wing Commander game? Some of those mods and TC's look good, is that Xwing Alliance version any good and will it ever be finished?

People start a new petition every couple months. I don't think anyone's worked on a Wing Commander XWA mod in like five years.

You should all really try a cvs version (find one on my page :) ). It's like a million times more stable and faster and has VCPI compliant ems ;)
