What secret lurk in the heart of Wing Commander III's TRE files? Well, this Kilrathi missile tank, for one! The general design of this tank should be familiar to WC veterans… but you haven't seen it with a missile turret before! That's because while it's stored in the game files it is never used in a mission. Since a similar 'finished but unseen' model has been discovered of a Wing Commander IV-style frigate, it stands to reason that the missile turrets were either not functioning properly or causing balance problems… leading to multiple missile-turreted objects' removal late in development!

Also very cool. Though I remembered the WC3 tank desgin differently (more flat).

There's versions of the tank both with and without turrets. Some of them have a regular gun turret on them.

Interestingly the Kilrathi Missile tank also never got removed from the build files right into WC4. You can find the same tank in the WC4 files. You can check them out in 3D in our ship viewer https://www.wcnews.com/shipviewer/

Just find "missile tank" in either the WC3 or WC4 list. WC4 uses a different Palette so the colors are displayed a bit off on the WC4 version

Also there's some scrolling issues with the viewer page if you try to zoom in or out. It shouldn't be a problem for the tank but is more of an issue with capships and starbases.

Thanks - I forgot about the ship viewer and just enjoyed it again after a long time.
