ks probs with xp

ok i've played this game before on xp so i know it can be done. wc1 and 2 install no prob but every time i go to play the game i get sound and i assume control but my moniter goes black like it is in standby. i have a built in s3 video card and a hp pavilion f50 lcd display (one of those 2" thick ones) i do have a nvida 3 card on the way if that might help. i have tried all of the compatability options. i do not know if this affects wc3 because i lost the cd's for ks but i do have the cd's for the original game. hmm would that work under ks? prob not.
any ideas oh great experts? no sarcasm intended.

ok directdraw is successful. acclererated direct 9+ is not available with my driver, the cards webpage download is not currently working.
