KS on XP problem

Ok. I didn´t find the solution but i may i have found the problem. I posted on another thread that i made an experiment with microsoft virtual pc created a windows 98 virtual machine running on win xp. Unfortunately this experiment was unsuccessful cause while the the game didn´t crash at all videos and sound were choppy and stuttering with sound and video completely out of sync.

So i tried creating a virtual machine win Win2k and installed KS. Had to install the wc3fix for win2k because of Virtual protect error and guess what the game runs absolutely flawlessly running videos navigating through the victory as well as on space flight with no crashes.
Win2k with SP4 comes with directx7 so i installed directx 9.0c and guess what win XP problems that we all know suddenly appeared!!! Random crashes at the intro movie, and especially when navigating through the victory so running KS on win2k virtual machine with directx 9.0c or with normal win xp system goes the same for both.

So why after testing it several hours with directx 7 game ran great with no crashes and then suddenly after installing 9.0c game behaviour was like running it on xp??

I´ll leave the answer to you i´m not an expert.

I'm a little curious why you would bother installing newer directx versions on your legacy VirtualPC, but anyway there must be some kind of driver support that directx9c breaks. You could experiment with going to the directx diagnostic panel and turning off various hardware acceleration settings like directdraw and sound. Tinkering with those kind of settings might aleviate some of the crashes.

I just installed newer directx versions on virtual pc so i could see if newer directx versions were responsible for those xp related crashes and apparently they do. And by the way turning of direct draw off and lowering sound accelreration doesn´t bring any improvement.

remember that XP SP2 comes with directx 9.0c and you can´t downgrade directx.
