Kilrathi Saga Secret Missions not working with XP

Okay, so I've got Windows XP, and I was jonesin' for some WC action so I install KS so I can play again, and maybe actually play through all three games and the add-ons in order like I've been meaning to do for years. So anyway, I play through WC1 and I'm ready to start on the Secret Missions. I download 'em, install, and start up the game. Opening screen plays just fine. I hit esc to go to the 'Start New Campaign' screen and it pops up for a second then the program crashes back to the desktop. I try just plain WC1, same thing. Secret Missions 2, ditto. I go grab Special Ops to see if WC2 will do the same thing, it runs just fine. I pulled my savegame, uninstalled then reinstalled, and WC1 works fine. I tried installing just SM1 or just SM2, the crash problem happens again. I'm getting really irritated cause I know they worked just fine under previous versions. Anybody got any ideas?

I think this may have something to do with the fact that Windows XP is not set up for DOS programs as earlier versions of Windows were. Are you running this in Win95 compatibility mode?

Figured it out

Windows 95 compatibility was indeed the answer. What was really confusing me was that even though compatibility mode kept it from crashing, I wasn't getting a mouse cursor. Finally realized that the cursor had gone down into the corner of the screen, so I plugged in a gamepad and recalibrated. All good now. <G>
