Kilrathi Saga installs DirectX 2 !!!!!

When I insert the first CD of Kilrathi Saga a window appears saying that DirectX 2 will now be installed, and it immediately starts to copy files without requesting a confirmation! :(
Who can tell me if this really overwrites a newer DirectX or if it detects the newer DirectX and therefore does not overwrite it?
 
I don't think so...

I'm not very familiar with anything under DirectX 3.0, but the DirectX install procedure checks to see if it needs to update the current DirectX files. But the easiest way to check this is to run the dxdiag.exe program. Just do a "Find Files or Folders" from the Start menu.
 
Kilrathi Saga is a pain in the butt. The last time it tried to install DX2, it did overwrite the newer version of DX on my computer. However, that was over two years ago... since then, I've learned that you simply have to have good reflexes, and click cancel the moment that little window pops up. It version-checks before installing, so you've got a window of opportunity of about 1 second.
