Keyboard Pitch Problem in WCIII with larger ships

Ok so here is the problem:
The pitch control on larger ships (Hellcat, Thunderbolt, Longbow) jams periodically after pitching a few degrees. It makes these ships almost useless to fly. Interestingly the Arrow and Excal never suffer from this problem.
So say you are pitching up by holding the down arrow key down, it works for about 10 degrees and then stops. In order to keep pitching you must either turn left or right then continue pitching. It’s like there is in invisible ‘wall’.
The larger the ship the worse it is with this glitch.

I have searched over and over for a solution to this problem. I have found a couple of threads with several other people having the exact same problem, but no solution has been posted as far as I can tell.

I have experienced this problem on every computer that I have installed WC3 on with DosBox.

It never happens in WC4.

It seems to happen with USB and PS/2 keyboards and occurs regardless of whether there is a joystick plugged in.

Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated :)

Cheers!

does it occur regardless of whether dosbox has a joystick set up? (in the config chance 4axis or whatever on the joysticktype to none)

Does anything work differently when you're holding the shift key down and using the arrow keys to maneuver? Have you tried unplugging all your other USB devices temporarily and trying? Have you tried the joystick patch? https://www.wcnews.com/files.shtml#wc3

I've had the same problem though I've had it on all ships the first time or two I fly them and usually only on CD1. I've bought multiple copies of WC3 (DOS) and its consistent with each copy. The only way I've found to counter this glitch is to rotate and hit the the left or right arrow key (eg rotate clockwise, hit the left arrow to go 'up' and vice versa).

Original poster here.

I am glad it not just me who has this problem, at least i know i'm not going crazy! Haha :)

I haven't tried the joystick patch, but I'll give it a shot.

Holding down the shift key does fix it Chris, thanks :) (however the ship pitches and yaws a heck of a lot faster).

So what I have done is used the DoxBox key mapper and mapped the arrow keys to output shift+arrow key.

So in other words, when i press the up arrow key the game recognises shift+up arrow, etc for each of the arrow keys. Problem solved, no more jaming of the controls.

So, a close enough work around for people with this prob.

Good, glad that worked. Holding shift is a feature that's supposed to help fine tune controls (low rate of turn when not pressed, high rate when pressed), but it seems to have a bug that backfired and created this situation in a few cases.

That's a creative solution! (DOSbox key binding)

Im getting exactly the same problem. Keeping the shift button down works fine but I just have no idea how I can correct this with the key mapper (sorry pretty useless here!). I type Control-F1 and bring the virtual keyboard up but am pretty lost from there. If someone could provide some sort of walkthrough on how to combine the arrow keys and shift button that would be great!

Cheers
