Win 2k
small-arse hard drive

Ok, what did you use to get it running? DOSBox? A bootdisk? Or is "boxer" the proggy you are using for it (don't know that one)? But if it's DOSBox, it's no wonder, it's too slow, cause with the current release you need at least ~2Ghz, with the latest CVS version already under 1Ghz is enough, but no go for a P2, sorry. :(
If you are using something else, no idea. (But considering you asked me about DOSBox already in another Thread, I guess you are using that one)

Yes, really bad that you need a faster PC for older games. :( - But As you can see from the 2Ghz -> under 1Ghz needed jump (infact, it was a 700Mhz), DOSBox is getting faster and faster, and maybe the release after 0.62 (upcoming) is fast enough to have it at least playable with your laptop. Who knows ;)

I installed and configured dosbox 0.61 just like Wuqked thaught us, and priv worked fine, sound and speech. But it was too slow and just spun around in flight...

pitty that my 1.3ghz athlon is too slow. but it was a pleasure to see the mining base again... maybe soon it will be fast enough... *tears in my eyes*

Wait till the next DOSBox version! Then your Pc (with 1.3Ghz) should be fast enough :) - Like I already posted, then under 1Ghz is enough :D No idea when it comes out, though. :( But you can try out the CVS Version if you know how to compile it (I don'T).

Might this be why my WC1 Deluxe is running so slow. I have a 2.6 ghtz P4 though

Compile? me? Nah... Noo idea how.
It will be a happy day indeed, when 0.62 is out.
"DIE, By the very weapons you adore!"

Priv has the best enemy taunts.

Hey, what should set for default cycles? I just copied your config for the dosbox, maybe that's one of the reasons why it's so slow. What do you recomend?

For which game? Privateer? - I've seen some being able to run that with 7500 cycles. But that's the lowest (with 0.61) - and that was on an athlon XP 2000+
But you may want to try 5000 cy<cles and frameskip=2 or 3 - Maybe this way it's gonna "work" (no idea how good) Best way is to start with cycles=5000
if sound is choppy, lower in 500 steps till it's ok. Then higher Frameskip to 1, try to up cycles again etc. - till you maybe get your settings ;)
The best way I'd guess would be to do it via ctrl+F9/10/11/12 in window mode, so you can write down the actual settings and don't have to restart all the time ;)
Good luck! :)

ups, Then I mixed them up, *sry* - Don't watch my fingers when i press the buttons ^^
Anyway, then it should be Ctrl+F7 and F8 for frameskip changes

I've got my CD copy of privateer to work but its not exactly playable, although I have noticed that placing data.tre onto the C:\ drive does improve things somewhat, esp stability wise.

As it is at the moment, the game is far too slow to be playable, even when I've messed around with the frame rate and the frame skip. I assume this has something to do with DosBox itself especially as I'm running a Barton Athlon 2500 which isn't exactly low end. I saw earlier that more powerful CPUs seem to be having more luck so I overclocked my system (It runs at 3000 - which is well over 2GHz for reasonable periods of time). This helped slightly but the game was still unplayably slow.

Sound is working very well though, especially as that has been one of my biggest problems in the past.

Hopefully THE_WUQKED is right about the next DosBox version. Thanks to everyone posting about this, its never fun to suffer in silence. Plus this is the first time I've ever been able to play WC1 properly!

I hope so, too. My info is based on someone's experience with the latest CVS version only, didn't test it myself :(
