Jumpy Keyboard in WCSaga

In Wing commander saga, the controls really suck, The keyboard is very jump so you cant like up with anything, and whenever i press more than one button at once they dont work. i can only hit one key at a time.

Is there anything to do about this? is it my config, or is there a game patch to fix this?

This stinks i just wanted to go back and replay my favorite game, but it looks like i cant.
 
Are you using a joystick?

"I can't use more than a few keys at a time!"
The way that Kilrathi Saga handles the keyboard input may make flight with the keyboard difficult. We recommend that you fly using a joystick for the best overall performance.
