It's that time again (WCP Sound Card)

Well... it's that time again, almost done re-playing WC IV and I need to get a new sound card to support Prophecy. (When I do the dxdiag thing it seems to never completely go back to normal afterwards.) I tried the SB-16 but that didn't help at all, and I eventually found a card that did work, but when it came out of my speakers it sounded fuzzy, so I had to use headphones. I would still be using that one, but I completely reformatted my computer and seem to have lost the cd for the sound card. Any recommendations as to what sound card will work well would help me very much, thank you.

System specs:

Processor: Pentium 3 1000
RAM: 256 (SD)
Video Card: Voodoo 3

Once again, thanks in advance.

a sound blaster live card works well in all versions of windows.
if u are still using 98, i still love the aureal vortex2 cards.
but for a cheap card that works well in all versions of windows, compusa has a $20 card, they sell it under thier own brand name.
PCI 3D Sound Card With ALS 4000 Audio

WCP uses DirectX from MS, and the card is DirectX/Directsound compliant, so yes. i've used it before in 95, 98, 2000, and even XP, it is a reliable card, thought the volume level seem alittle low at times. i can a test to its DOS support as well, it works with privateer2, and the other dos titles.

Coolness. I've got WinME, but since it works on 95/98 I'm sure it will do fine for me. Thanks man. If anyone else has any other suggestions I would like to hear them too please, you know, in case my computer spits out another card :)

Well... it probably doesn't help you much, but my sound setup is that (IMO) runs every WC's sound stuff perfectly is...

SoundBlaster!Live 5.1 (PCI)
SoundBlaster 32 AWE (ISA)
Roland RAP-10 (ISA)
Roland MT-32 (External)

The Live 5.1 does everything that works in Windows 98 (KS, WC4, Prophecy, WC Movie DVD). Use the original LiveWare for that Prophecy soundfont dealy.

In DOS, the 32 AWE does the FX for the older games (WC1, WC2, Academy, Armada, Privateer, Privateer 2). Set its MIDI port to 300.

The RAP-10 does the music for the GM games (Armada, Privateer, Privateer 2) and everything for WC3 and 4. Set its MIDI port to 330.

The MT-32 does the music for WC1, 2 and Academy.

Hey thanks LOAF. I'll copy that setup down and save it to my comp in case some day I actually can afford that stuff ;)

Nah, you've got to get a Roland, that's what they were *composed* on. :)

Anyway, the entire sound setup was under $250... the old Creative Labs stuff is very, very cheap these days.

not to mention they are just classic sound cards.
but the better and increasingly more rare, is the aureal vortex series, specifically th vortex2 line. they are the best cards i've ever had. and i've had the sb live, the sblive 5.1, the platnum of both those, and several others. so i know my sound cards.

just a quick update, I got some mo money recently. So I think I'll be able to get that Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live 5.1 (maybe), does anyone know how much it costs?

I picked one up for $30 on eBay a few days ago. They're fairly cheap.

alright, I got it today, but the Prophecy videos are still skipping (not nearly as bad as they normally do mind you). Any advice on how to stop it completely?
