Installing Wing Commander 1 on Windows Millenium

I recently found an old copy of Wing Commander on ebay and installed it on Windows Millenium. But the program will not run. It locks up the pc. Does anyone know what I need to do in order to make toe game run correctly?

Ok,

I've got it running without sound. that will allow me to run the program. The problem now is that it runs way too quick. Is there something that I can doto slow it down?

What speed does your PC have?
Try one of the various slowdown utilities here on the page.

My Pc is a Pentium III, 128 mb RAM.

I did a search on the slowdown utilities and found a couple of threads mentioning to set sound acceleration to none in DirectX which I did but it did not work.

I found one that mentioned using "Turbo" that will work in Windows but have not found it.

I've searched the pages here but must be stupid because I can't find a files section anywhere.

I'll keep trying though. thanks for your help!

A MhZ value would have been more informative then saying that it is a P3. However every P3 is probably too fast to slow it down (The directX stuff you mentioned only applies to Windows based games). The best option is go into the BIOS of your PC and look for the lines internal cache and external cache. Turn both off. If the game is still too fast try MOSLO at a very conservative setting (if you slow too much moslo disables itself). Don't forget to set the caches to enabled again before trying to boot windows or you'll wait 30 mins for it to come up...

Success!!

I used the Moslo software and it slowed down the game so it runs fine now.

Thanks for all of your help!

Randy
