Installing WC4 on a fast, XP computer

Ok, I came across this site, and I want to get back into the game... as I remember being a kid and experiencing this game. Boy, they sure knew how to make them back then. Definately beats any so called 'Best Game Ever's, such as HL2.. fun, but not lasting once you've won.

Anyway, I've tried installing WC4 before on XP, and it usually ends up crashing somewhere, sometimes after the first in-game movie on Earth, or just when the game's about to load on the start up.. Any suggestions?
 
Have you tried going into the properties of the shortcut to the game executable and selecting Win95/98 compatability?
 
I think I tried that before, but I'll try again and see what happens this time round. I'm not bothered about messing up my comp for the time being, reformatting in a couple of weeks.
 
Well, tried it, but as usual it's the sound and video that's causing problems. Videos won't run... sound won't work at all. :(

(Well, for starters, this really should be in the Tech Suport forum, where it's going with this post)

It would help if you told us what hardware and drivers for the hardware you're using, at the least. If there are error messages of any kind those would help, too, as well as being a little more specific about the exact symptoms of the problem.
 
It's alright guys, I've got it going now.

Lol, critical, I managed to stumble across that thread before you posted it here, and following the instructions got it working. :D
