Installing WC2 on Win XP machine

I haven't been able to locate my problem on the forums, so I hope there is an answer.

I am running win xp and trying to install WC2. I recieve an error message after clicking install. I use the Gateway.exe to bring up a menu. the error is as follows:

Runtime Error!
Program c:\WC2\GATEWAY\PIFMAKER.EXE
abnormal program termination.

I can run the game by copying the files to the Hard drive and using the WC2.exe file. But I have no hope of conifuring sound without using the pifmaker to create a config.sys.

P.S. the game runs fast, but I am sure I can solve that later or with moslo.

Sorry if this was already answered, but I look for a while.
 
If this helps. I tried to run the install.exe from the WING2 dir. It says

Installation not completed. Reason #23:

IRQ Conflict error.
You have an IRQ conflict between you Sound Blaster and another card.



I check my IRQs and I have the Sound card on 18 with the NIC and USB.
