Hi All

I know this Forum isn't about Secret Ops, but I don't know where else to ask about a problem I am having installing the game. I missed the chance to download it when it was available from Origin, so I grabbed it from the link on this site.

I downloaded it to my desktop, but when I unzip it, it don't appear to install. It spends a while unzipping, then the launch screen comes up and lets you play the game (it runs fine from here). When you close out, it's gone! You have to unzip it again and start all over again. It happens every time.

Also, I downloaded Standoff, and it works fine.

My OS is XP

My computer skills are minimal, and I am lost!

Thanks in advance for any help I can get!

Jim

The installer should have created a folder called "Origin Systems." Click start, go to programs, then Origin Systems, then WC Secret Ops, and then click the shortcut. Hope that helps

Thanks for the quick response. My computer skills served me at least well enough to check for the Origin folder. That is the problem, when I start to unzip and install, the folder never gets created. Files start unzipping, then the Secret Ops launch window pops up, and the unzip window is just sitting there behind it doing nothing. The game plays fine, but it never seems to get permenantly installed in the unzip process.

Thanks again

Did you check under Games in your primary drive. That is we're it will usually place it for me.

It sounds like secret ops is already installed on your machine? Have you ever had a secret ops launch window that had a button that said install on it? (like when you did your first unzip)

You mention that Standoff works fine - if by that you mean that you can play the game, then this would mean that Secret Ops must be installed somewhere - Standoff would refuse to install if it couldn't find Secret Ops anywhere, and even if you somehow managed to install it, it definitely wouldn't run without Secret Ops.

Hmm Q, I would think he means standoff zip installs fine, but secretops dont. Not that he can play standoff...or at least I hope thats it. If not, he already has secret ops sitting ready on his pc an doesnt even know that.
Try downloading secret ops again, as your zip may be corrupted...

Well, really, he has to have Secret Ops sitting on his hard drive - just like Standoff, Secret Ops will refuse to run if it doesn't find a registry entry pointing to the Secret Ops folder. Without that registry entry, it can't find any of its tre files - so if the game worked once, that means it's gotta be there somewhere.

try searching for secret ops from the Find program. go to start--find--files or folders. Im not sure if its the same for winxp, but should be similar to that. The Find program will show what directory its in so just follow that.

Hi All

I got it! I found the Origin systems folder (don't know how I missed it). It must have installed without putting a shortcut to the desktop. I just got thru flying all the missions in part one of Secret Ops. I guess I will have to track down a used copy of Prophecy Gold to get all of the missions! I have a copy of the original (gotta love Ginger Lynn).

Now to get to work on Standoff. I flew a couple of the missions so far.

It is nice to find a game that runs fine on this 2 year old HP laptop!

Thanks again everyone!

Glad you got it working. This is a good forum to ask Secret Ops questions in, but we do have a general Wing Commander Tech Support Forum located at http://www.crius.net/zone/forumdisplay.php?f=3
