how to use USB joystick in DOS-Mode?

To run Privateer1 on my ThinkPad, I want to use the USB-port for the joystick. Does anybody know how this is possible in DOS-mode?

There are no DOS drivers for USB, so that's not going to work. Digital joysticks don't run in pure DOS either, for that matter. You'll have to connect an older analogue stick to your joystick port. If you don't have one, there are PCMCIA cards, but those usually aren't exactly cheap. And I don't know if they work in DOS. <G>

They can work in DOS. But if they need Cardsoft drivers like mine does (GameCard 2 IIRC) and your Laptop got a pretty big BIOS (128k window!!) then you can kiss your EMM goodbye as you won't find a free memory window for PCMCIA and EMM.

Unless you either use QEMM (unstable at times) or you just overwrite the BIOS window (which happens for me, but I cannot take any reponsibilities if it kills your machine).

Rats! :(
Kris says digital joysticks don't work in DOS. Guess that means my SideWinder Pricision Pro is no good for Privateer then, oh well.

Gaston, sounds like the best option is to do what I am about to do, and thats to go down to my local computer store and buy a $10 analog joystick.
Well happy gaming! :D
