Hi @ all!

I installed the old good Dos just for Privateer1!But It will not start!:-(
Has anybody of you a Idea how to edit config.sys and autoexec.bat to get Privateer1 start under Dos 6.22?

Depends on your hardware. What have you got so far in regards of config files and what hardware do you have? Did you read the stick posts in the tech forum already?

Hi!

My config. configuration looks so:
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM 2592 /i=b000/b7ff X=CD00-CFFF
BUFFERS=25,0
FILES=25
DOS=UMB
LASTDRIVE=E
FCBS=4,0
DEVICE=C:\CTCM\CTCM.EXE
DEVICEHIGH /L:2,12240 =C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE
DOS=HIGH
COUNTRY=049,850,C:\DOS\COUNTRY.SYS
DEVICEHIGH /L:2,15824 =C:\DOS\DISPLAY.SYS CON=(EGA,,1)
shell=c:\dos\command.com c:\dos /p

and this is my autoexec.bat:
SET CTCM=C:\CTCM
C:\CTCM\CTCU /S
LH /L:0;2,16400 /S C:\DOS\SMARTDRV.EXE /X
@ECHO OFF
PROMPT $p$g
PATH C:\DOS
SET TEMP=C:\DOS
MODE CON CODEPAGE PREPARE=((850) C:\DOS\EGA.CPI)
MODE CON CODEPAGE SELECT=850
LH /L:2,17232 KEYB GR,,C:\DOS\KEYBOARD.SYS

I have 1GHZ AMD Thunderbird Cpu, a Raedeon 8500Le with 128DDR Ram,256MB SD-Ram and a audigy2 soundcard.
When I want to play privateer dos hang up!:-(
I hope someone of you can help me!:-)

Hi!

Yes, I tried it with sound=none, music=none and speech=none !
But it wont´t work either!
After I typing Priv to start the game and press "Return" , dos hang up and stop continue loading the game! Also I don´t get any error message from dos!It just stops!Probably someone of you have a Idea to solve this problem!

I dunno if it changes a thing, but I'd try these config files:

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM 16384
BUFFERS=30
FILES=50
DOS=HIGH,UMB
LASTDRIVE=E
DEVICEHIGH=C:\CTCM\CTCM.EXE

and this is my autoexec.bat:
@ECHO OFF
SET CTCM=C:\CTCM
C:\CTCM\CTCU /S
PROMPT $p$g
PATH C:\DOS
SET TEMP=C:\DOS
LH KEYB GR,,C:\DOS\KEYBOARD.SYS

I can't help with the dos stuff, but I added a partition to my harddrive, put win98 onto it and use MyJemm. Works pretty well. If you do this the Win98 part has to be small. I recommend 3gb so that way the bootable part for win98 and xp will be where they are supposed to be. I had to wipe a harddrive cause I screwed it up.

It don´t made any chances, but thank you for the Idea!:-)

:-(
The only idea I have left is to remove the CTCM lines. Sides that are you sure you don't have any IRQ conflicts?
Oh, something else: Do you have an analogue joystick plugge in into the gameport of your soundcard? P1 want to have a stick in there to run properly on some systems.

if you want an easy solution: run it in windows.
I know a lot of you prolly have already tried doing this to find that JEMM doesn't like the way windows handles conventional memory. The solution: do a search for MyJEMM. It is a windows proggy that fixes the problem with JEMM emulation. This allows one to run privateer in windows 9x/ME. Note: this program will not work in NT/XP/200X... If you cannot find the program from random internet searching, e-mail me and I can send it out to you (don't request it on this board since I don't come here often enough to actually send it to ya that way). My e-mail addy (for now) is: hey-zeus_ghoce@graffiti.net
Peace out, and down with kilrathi

Privateer + DOS 6.22 + SB16 onboard DSP ver. 4.13

Having the same symptom of Privateer freezing on the first frame. Don't know whether this is an issue with 6.22 or the SB16 onboard. RF freezes on the first frame, holding the first chord until I reboot. I suspect Privateer does the same, but the music is inaudible at the beginning. I've tried configuring Privateer with no music/sound and disabling the SB16 in the BIOS. Still freezes. Makes me think it is a problem with 6.22. Copied the CD to the C drive and redirected the CFG files to point there, instead of the CD - no help. Incidentially, I tries FreeDOS and it ran OK, but some of the speach was quite staticy and loud. I'm using the following CONFIG.SYS:

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICEHIGH=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE RAM MIN=0
BUFFERS=20,0
FILES=50
LASTDRIVE=M
DOS=HIGH,UMB
DEVICEHIGH=\DEV\HIT-IDE.SYS /D:MSCD002

AUTOEXEC.BAT:

SET SOUND=C:\SB16
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 T6
SET MIDI=SYNTH:1 MAP:E
C:\SB16\DIAGNOSE /S
C:\SB16\MIXERSET /P /Q
LH C:\DOS\MSCDEX.EXE /D:MSCD002 /M:8
SET TEMP=C:\DOS
LH /L:0;1,24800 /S C:\MOUSE.EXE

Basically, just interested in figuring out what the problem is. I'm playing Privateer Remake on my XP box and I'm quite satisfied with that.

I have plenty of other games loaded on my DOS box and they play with no problems.

To fix the sound static problem, add the number 16384 to the emm386 line in your config.sys. Too much memory causes the sound corruption.

the thing I've found about myjemm is that it absolutely hates it when you set the music for general MIDI... it's crashed and frozen windows every time for me.

If you don't like MyJEMM or don't want to mess with lots of options, try a DOS bootdisk first. Here's a very basic one with just the minimum of drivers installed: http://www.svrops.com/svrops/downloads/zipfiles/Dos622Basic.exe

and here's another one with CD-ROM support (may or may not work with your hardware):
http://www.svrops.com/svrops/downloads/zipfiles/Dos622cd.exe

Note: There are no sound drivers if I recall right. But if Priv starts using bootdisks, you can go on from there without risking to make your system unusable for other applications or games.
